The Growing Popularity of Dental Implants
Dental implants feel and function like real teeth. They are strong, stable, durable, and do not interfere with your ability to eat, smile, or speak.
With the discovery of titanium in the 1950s, Dental Implants were born. These artificial teeth are equipped with titanium anchors that act like the root to secure the implants directly into the jaw bone, providing the look and feel of a real tooth. Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or missing teeth as a result of gum disease, injury, or some other reason.
The popularity of dental implants has been increasing over the years at a rapid rate, and for good reason.
THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS
-
Dental implants feel and function like real teeth. They are strong, stable, durable, and do not interfere with your ability to eat, smile, or speak.
-
Because they are anchored in place, you do not have to worry about your replacement tooth or bridge coming loose. Dental implants are built to last a lifetime (with proper care).
-
Unlike other treatment options that require special care, dental implants are cared for just like real teeth – brushing and flossing.
-
Dental implants are the only dental restoration option that preserves and stimulates the jaw bone.
-
Dental implants are removable and replaceable.
-
These implants are put into place without harming or affecting the surrounding teeth, which is something that cannot be said for other treatment options.
-
With a success rate of over 95%, dental implantology is one of the most successful surgeries out there. Dental implant treatment has a track record of reliable, long-term success.

There’s no need to be worried if your dentist prescribes root canal treatment to treat your diseased tooth. Millions of teeth are saved this way each year. Fatemi Family Dentistry, which has offices in Lexington Park and Gaithersburg, MD, offers a complete range of dental services. Our world-class dentist, Dr. Ali Fatemi, offers root canal treatments with a gentle touch. Here are five reasons to consider root canal therapy.
1. You have a toothache.
Have a toothache? A toothache is a sign that endodontic canal therapy is needed. The pain you feel is caused by an infection in the tooth. The pain may affect the quality of your sleep. Root canal treatment will alleviate your discomfort or pain and enhance your well-being. Root canals are nothing to fear. Most patients report that root canal treatment is no more painful than having a dental filling placed.
2. You have a bump on your gum.
Have you noticed a bump on your gum? Don't worry – this is normal. A pimple-like bump that forms on the gum is a sign that root canal therapy is needed. The bump on your gum will often go away and then come back. If you notice a bump on your gum, you should see a Lexington Park and Gaithersburg professional for treatment.
3. Your gums are swollen.
Swelling around the gums or a tooth may indicate the need for root canal therapy. The swelling can range from very slight to very noticeable. Swelling isn't always accompanied by the presence of pain. The swelling will not disappear until you undergo a root canal treatment.
4. Cold and hot bother you.
Do cold and hot bother you? Tooth sensitivity causes pain when the area is exposed to cold or hot beverages and foods — or even by the air. Sensitive teeth can be caused by aggressive brushing and eating acidic foods. Sometimes tooth sensitivity is a sign that endodontic therapy is needed. If you have an infected tooth, your tooth sensitivity will go away after you undergo endodontic therapy.
5. You have a discolored tooth.
Tooth discoloration is common, particularly in those who drink coffee or use tobacco products. However, sometimes a darkened tooth is an indication that something's wrong with it. One severely discolored tooth may be a sign that a root canal is needed. Visit your dentist if you have a severely discolored tooth.
Don't put off a root canal if you need it. A root canal gives your tooth a second chance. Call Fatemi Family Dentistry to schedule a dental appointment in Lexington Park and Gaithersburg, MD. You have nothing to lose, except your toothache!
Over time, everyone’s teeth will begin to break down and stain. Even if you follow all of the dentist’s advice, you might find yourself with wanting to alter your smile, by either making it whiter, or by hiding a chipped or broken tooth. However, there is a solution: veneers. But what are veeners?
Dr. Fatemi and the caring staff at Fatemi Family Dentistry specialize in cosmetic dentistry and are ready help you.
WHAT ARE VENEERS?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are applied to the front surface of your teeth in order to alter their appearance. The materials used will usually involve either porcelain or a resin composite. Common uses of veneers are to fix
-
Discolored teeth
-
Broken or chipped teeth
-
Misaligned or uneven teeth
-
Gaps between teeth
-
Teeth that are worn down
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?
After the initial consultation with the dentist, the application of veneers can usually be accomplished within two visits. Your dentist will first discuss with you whether or not dental veneers are a good fit for you, mainly based on your exact dental structure. When the procedure begins, the dentist will first remove about 0.5 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface. This is about the width of your new veneer, and creates a smooth surface to ensure the veneer will seamlessly fit against your tooth. The dentist will next make an impression of your tooth in order to create a custom-fit veneer.
The next step is bonding. After the dentist receives your new veneer, he or she will examine how it fits, and may trim the veneer to make sure it is properly aligned with your tooth. To prepare the tooth for bonding, your dentist will clean and polish it, and then etch the surface to allow for a strong bond to take hold. A special form of cement is applied, and once the veneer is placed your dentist will use a special light to make the bond cure very quickly. Once the process is complete, your dentist will examine your bite, and make sure your new veneer fits perfectly.
