How does Invisalign Work?

Whether you are five or 35, no one likes to think of the idea of having clunky, bulky-looking braces.

Fortunately, Invisalign has changed how people wear braces, and Gaithersburg residents have direct access to these braces that are practically invisible. But you may have a lot of questions on how does Invisalign work, so let’s take look at the basics of Invisalign.

INVISALIGN 101

Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible, which is a distinct advantage from the older styles of braces. The aligners are made of a thermoplastic material that was uniquely developed for Invisalign treatments. The aligners are custom-made just for you. During your treatment with Invisalign, you will receive different aligners. The aligners will make specific adjustments to tooth positions, which will already have been planned out by your dentist. The aligners will cause the teeth to slowly shift from their current position and get closer to the position your teeth should be in. Invisalign moves your teeth through controlled force.

INVISALIGN TREATMENT

Even though Invisalign seems great, Gaithersburg residents want to know if there is any pain associated with using Invisalign. These type of braces are not known to be as a painful as traditional braces, but people can feel discomfort at the beginning of each new stage of the treatment. This is normal and a sign that Invisalign is working. The discomfort will generally go away within just a few days.

COMMON INVISALIGN QUESTIONS

Here are some of the most common Invisalign questions Gaithersburg residents may have about Invisalign:

Question: Can I chew gum when I’m wearing my aligners?

Answer: No. The gum will stick to the aligners, and the aligners should be removed for all snacks and meals.

Question: How often should I wear the aligners?

Answer: Aligners work the best when you wear them 20-22 hours a day. You should mainly only remove them to eat, brush your teeth and floss.

Question: Will the aligners fall off when I sleep?

Answer: The aligners are designed to firmly fit your teeth, so there shouldn’t be any reason why they would fall off while you sleep.

Hopefully our blog post helped you learn a little more about Invasilgn, and our friendly staff is available to answer any and all questions you may have.
